Advocate Staff ReportPeople posing as Victoria Electric Cooperative have been calling customers and asking them to pay their bills over the phone, a company spokesman said.

The people are not employees of the co-op, Brittany Marsh, communication specialist at VEC, said

The co-op does not make calls after normal business hours or over the weekend, she said.

Three customers have called in about the situation.

She said the representatives who said they were from the electric co-op have requested customers pay their electric bill over the phone.

"They called our members and said if they didn't pay their electric bill now, they would be disconnected," said Marsh about the imposters. "If our members ever get any calls like that, we tell them to contact VEC directly," she said.
