Three people died Monday afternoon after a head on collision on state Highway 185 in Calhoun County.
A silver Honda Pilot was traveling south on 185 near the Ineos Plant when it crossed the center stripe for an unknown reason about 1:51 p.m. It struck head on a white Ford King Ranch heavy duty pick-up that was traveling north on 185, said Trooper Gerald Bryant, a spokesperson for the Department of Public Safety.
The Honda Pilot burst into flames on impact and came to rest in a ditch where it caught some grass on fire.
The pick-up flipped on its right side.
The three people in the Honda Pilot were pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace 5 Nancy Pomykal out of Port O'Connor at 3:24 p.m. The bodies cannot be recognized at this time, but Bryant said a license plate for the vehicle indicated they were from Port Lavaca. They will be sent to Travis County Medical Examiner's office.
The two people in the pick-up, Lloyd Skalak, 76, and Barbara Skalak, 64, both of Seadrift, were taken to Citizens Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Trooper Mario Gonzales is investigating.
