Advocate faith reporter to speak at Yoakum's Friends of the Library meeting

The Friends of the Library will host its annual luncheon for the Carl and Mary Welhausen Library at 11:15 a.m. April 15 at the Yoakum Community Center, 105 Huck St., Yoakum.
Doors will open at 11:15 a.m., and lunch will be served at 11:45 a.m. The business meeting will begin at noon, followed by the introduction of the guest speaker, Jennifer Preyss.
Preyss is the Victoria Advocate's religion reporter. She writes weekly feature stories for Saturday's Faith page. She also writes a religion column, Revelations, which allows her to explore her own spiritual journey through her daily interactions as a journalist.
Preyss was recently awarded the 2012 Cassell's Religion Reporter of the Year award, a national honor given by the Religion Newswriters Association. She recently returned from Kerala, India, where she spent five weeks with a team of Texas professionals writing about religion and serving as a Rotary International Texas Ambassador.
Preyss has worked in print journalism for about six years and has been honored for her reporting and column work more than six times in two states. She obtained bachelor's degrees in sociology and journalism from Georgia State University.
Tickets may be purchased from Friends of the Library board members or the Carl and Mary Welhausen Library, 810 Front St., Yoakum, for $10. Tickets may also be reserved by calling the library at 361-293-5001 by April 8.
