Houses are fine, but with a few special touches, a builder can transform the structure into a full-fledged home.
It's that sense of detail that Tony Prokop said he prides himself on in his work.
Prokop was voted the Crossroads' best builder in the Advocate's 2013 Best of the Best contest. This is his second win in the category.
The Victoria resident, 46, got his start in construction at age 15. He worked as a subcontractor for many years, he said, before starting Prokop Custom Homes.
Attention to customers' needs is something he said helps him stand apart from other builders.
"We try to do a good job for people, be creative and get them what they need," he said. "We want to give them the most house for their money that we can."
Prokop said it feels good to know people appreciate the care he and his company put in to their work.
"This is really cool," he said. "Definitely an honor."
