A public servant's life is intense at times. It requires focus, drive and care for the overall goal: keeping the people safe.
And for Victoria County Sheriff T. Michael O'Connor, it's all in a day's work.
O'Connor was named the best public servant in the Crossroads in the Advocate's 2013 Best of the Best contest.
The sheriff was born and raised in Victoria. Now entering his third year in office, he has served as sheriff for eight years.
He said the work is rewarding.
"I know they entrust me as to what I do because they re-elect me," he said. "But this public recognition is gratifying."
O'Connor said he viewed the award as support not only for himself, but for everyone who works at the sheriff's office.
"It humbles you," he said. "And every once in a while you need to be humbled."
