Even when you don't feel like walking the trails or kayaking the Guadalupe River, Riverside Park has its place for sheer relaxation.

People are apparently loving it, too. That is why they voted it the best place to picnic in the Advocate's Best of the Best competition - on top of already being voted best park.

Doug Cochran, former Victoria parks and recreation director, said there is no one popular spot, but Grover's Bend is where people typically do most of their picnicking.

The grass and trees offer a great feel of nature, and the river flowing by makes you really feel like you're far away from your city.

That's the magic of Riverside Park, Cochran said.

"It's a large area, and it's very close to where the public lives," he said. "We appreciate everyone's confidence in their parks system. Come out and enjoy your parks. It's not the same without you."
