Sometimes it's hard to start the day off without a little help. That is why Shipley Do-Nuts opens at 5 a.m. every day.

Readers of the Advocate voted Shipley the best doughnut in the Crossroads in the 2013 Best of the Best competition.

Shipley's employee Tammy Perez believes the taste is what keeps customers coming back each morning.

"The taste is different," she said. "When they are warm, they just taste so good."

The doughnut shop also sells sweet and savory kolaches and her favorite - the chocolate-filled doughnut.

But their top seller is the glazed doughnut.

For 19 years, the shop has only accepted cash or checks. So be prepared.

"Some people will walk to the (bank) and get money out of the ATM," Perez said. "They like their doughnuts."
