Step through the double doors of the Marble Slab Creamery in the Whispering Creek Shopping Center, and you will feel a burst of cool air.

It's not from the cooler, but probably from the large marble slab the store keeps ice cold and uses for mixing toppings into ice cream.

Readers of the Victoria Advocate voted Marble Slab No. 1 for the best ice cream in the 2013 Best of the Best contest. This is its fourth year to win the title.

"We're happy to be voted the best again," said Prashant Patel, manager of the popular ice cream parlor. "We believe in our product and appreciate the support."

Marble Slab offers customers 22 flavors of ice cream with more than 30 options for toppings and mix-ins from fresh fruit to cookies to candies. Armed with two ice cream paddles, they can mix in whatever the sweet tooth is craving atop a slab of marble covered in frost.

"Our most popular flavor is sweet cream," he said. "A lot of our customers like it."

The ice creamery also sells ice cream cakes and makes fresh waffle cones dipped in chocolate for those customers who don't want to hassle with a spoon.
