Debra Black, registered nurse, Reiki master and reflexologist, recently completed the "Certified Professional Life Coach" certification.

Troy Hewell Finch, the owner of Finch Funeral Chapels that operate in La Vernia, Stockdale, Nixon, Yorktown and Runge, was selected by his peers and named 2012-13 Funeral Director of the Year by the South Central Texas Funeral Directors Association, which is the largest of eight Texas regions and covers 56 counties, including San Antonio, Austin and Victoria.

Tammy Whatley recently was named the April Employee of the Month at the University of Houston-Victoria. She is the senior coordinator of student recruitment for the UHV School of Nursing and has worked at the university since 1996. Whatley received a framed certificate and a $50 gift card.

Victoria resident Thomas Sawyer was recently honored for achieving 1 million miles of safe driving at J.B. Hunt Transport. Sawyer, a J.B. Hunt truck driver since 2000, currently drives for the company's Truckload business unit. For his service to the company and commitment to safety, J.B. Hunt awarded Sawyer a $5,000 bonus.

The Texas Bankers Foundation honored Richard A. Bothe, of Victoria, with the 50-year Banker Award during a luncheon held at the 129th annual TBA Convention in San Antonio on May 3. This award honors bankers with a half century or more of service and dedication to the banking industry. Bothe is chairman of the board of International Bank of Commerce in Port Lavaca. He has been in banking for 52 years and with IBC for 19 years.
