Applications are now being accepted for the Victoria College Workforce & Continuing Education Department's truck driving training.
Classes begin June 3.
Students are required to have a valid Texas driver's license and complete a Texas Department of Public Safety physical examination and drug and alcohol screening.
During the seven-week course, students will experience both classroom and behind-the-wheel driving activities. The coursework includes public, street and highway driving; emphasis on safety, rules, regulations and techniques; opportunities to meet with recruiters from the trucking industry.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be eligible to take the commercial driver license written and driving examinations at the Department of Public Safety.
Graduates of the course will be eligible for any entry-level employment in the trucking industry.
In the Golden Crescent region, truck drivers earn an average of $14.82 per hour or $33,820 per year.
Commercial truck drivers transport supplies, equipment and finished goods from one point to another so they can be distributed, bought or sold.
