El Campo falls to Boerne in regional quarterfinal

SAN MARCOS - El Campo lost both ends of a doubleheader and was eliminated by Boerne from the Class 3A playoffs Friday.

Boerne won the first game with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to erase a two-run El Campo lead and win, 5-4, then held on in the second game to advance to face either Sinton or Kingsbville next week, 6-5.

In the first game, Clayton Harp gave El Campo a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning with a two RBI single. The Ricebirds added an insurance run on one Matt Edwards' three hits in the game.

Boerne battled back with three runs on three hits off of El Campo pitcher Beau Talley to win the game

In the second game, El Campo fell behind early when Boerne scored two runs in the second inning to go up 4-2. El Campo scored a run in the third, but was shut out in the fourth.

Boerne scored another two runs in the fifth inning to go up 6-4. El Campo tried to rally late scoring two runs in the fifth and one in the six.

In the seventh inning, the Ricebirds missed a chance to catch up by stranding two runners.
