Three Port O'Connor groups are planning Memorial Day events Saturday.
The Chamber of Commerce and seafood market Beacon 44 will host a free fishing tournament for kids from 3 to 12 years old from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at King Fisher Beach.
Registration will start at 8:30 a.m.
Beacon 44 will provide the bait, but kids must bring their own fishing gear. Trophies will be awarded for the biggest fish, the smallest fish and the most fish.

Also Saturday, the Port O'Connor Sports Association will host a barbecue cook-off featuring brisket, chicken, ribs, chili, gumbo, pulled pork and dessert cooked on a grill at King Fisher Beach.
Entry fee is $25 for the first meat entry and $10 for any additional meat entries. Trophies will be awarded, and the proceeds from the event will go toward building a new sports complex.
The organization will sell brisket plates and chips for $7 and drinks for $1 starting at 11 a.m.
