Vick family reunion set for Meyersville Country Club
May 29, 2013 at 12:29 a.m.
The Vick family reunion will be at 11 a.m. June 15 at the Meyersville Country Club, 5195 Mission Valley Road, in Cuero.
Each family attending is asked to bring a side dish to accompany the barbecue main dish.
The Vick family history in the area began when a man, his wife and family crossed the Texas border by wagon and settled in a place called Sweet Home.
His name was the Rev. Richard Vick, a Primitive Baptist preacher, and his wife was Mary Hinton Vick.
Their son, Wesley Frank, was 15. He later married Elizabeth Jane Guthrie.
Wesley's son, Jefferson Davis, married Rosie Mae Hollan. Their son, Otto, married Desmer Gertrude Daniels.
Altogether, the families had 40 known children. They were born and lived in Sweet Home, Cuero, Fortran, Yoakum and surrounding towns for more than five generations.
The third generation, Otto Vick, has four children still living. They are Gertrude Vick Green, Rose Vick Marek and Myrtle Vick Stringham, all of Victoria; and Garlan L. Vick, of New Braunfels.
