Generals sweep season-opening series, beat Woodlands

THE WOODLANDS - Mac Seibert and Jacob Hubert each had three hits to lead the Victoria Generals to an 8-4 win over the Woodlands Strykers on Friday night.
The Generals (2-0) swept the season-opening series and will head to Lafayette, La., for two games against the Acadiana Cane Cutters on Saturday and Sunday.
Victoria took the lead for good with a three-run second inning. Two of the runs scored on an infield single by St. Joseph graduate Hayden Vesely.
Hubert had a double and a RBI for the Generals. Hubert scored two runs and Brandon Hannon had two hits and scored two runs.
Toller Boardman from the University of Texas was the starting pitcher for Victoria and went five innings to pick up the win.
Boardman yielded four hits and one walk while striking out seven.
Victoria Memorial graduate Daniel Tunchez, Kaleb Keith and Ganado graduate Glenn Sparkman combined to pitch three innings of scoreless relief.
Tunchez and Keith each had one strikeout, and Sparkman had two to give Victoria pitchers 11 for the game.
The Generals also stole seven bases, with Hannon and Romeo Cortina each swiping two bases apiece.
Taylor Taska had a RBI double for the Strykers (0-2), who had five hits.
The Generals will have a day off Monday before returning to Riverside Stadium for their home opener against the Texas Marshals on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m.
