Victoria's municipal pool will open later than normal this summer.

The Gary T. Moses Swimming Pool, 211 N. Ben Wilson St., will open June 12.

The pool season was delayed a week for lifeguard training, according to information from the city.

All private parties at the pool will begin as scheduled June 8.

Summer hours are from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.

The pool is open through Aug. 11.

While city officials feared there would not be enough lifeguards to safely open the pool, the positions have been filled.

Additional lifeguards are still being hired. Applicants must be at least 16 years old and have American Red Cross First Aid and CPR certification, along with the ability to perform basic rescues.

The pay is $7.75 an hour.

People who become certified lifeguards and complete the entire summer season at the pool will be reimbursed $130 for the certification course.

Lifeguards with one to three years of paid lifeguard experience will be eligible to receive a $150 bonus at the end of the season.
