A taste of Italy will be featured at the fifth annual Holiday Wine Pairing Event hosted Friday by the Golden Crescent Court Appointed Special Advocates.

The event will raise funds to increase awareness about the center's need for volunteers.

Food prepared by Huvar's Artisan Market will be paired with Italian wines, including Chianti, prosecco and pinot grigio.

CASA currently serves 300 abused or neglected children, and executive director Tim Hornback said about 100 of those children are not paired up with a volunteer advocate.

Advocates speak for children who are brought before the court, Hornback said.

Proceeds from the event, he said, will be used toward recruiting more advocates for the children. Those volunteers can come from different walks of life and may seem as though they have nothing in common.

"The things that they do share is that they have a real desire to help children," Hornback said.

There will be a live and silent auction, including pictures painted by the children. The pictures feature hands and were created during the CASA's summer art program.

Tickets for the event are $75 and are only available by calling to center at 361-573-3734.
