Mary Garcia, director of Affectionate Arms Adult Day Care Center, knows the importance of Sunday's fundraiser at Ventura's Tamales.

"We're hoping the community will come and support us," she said.

"It will help us continue our services to the elderly and disabled in our community."

Affectionate Arms is a nonprofit organization licensed for 59 clients.

"Right now, we are taking applications for Medicare clients," said Garcia.

In the past, Medicare had not been accepted for payment at the facility, but currently, there is an "open window" period, Garcia said.

In addition to daily activities, the adult day care provides a hot meal and transportation for its clients.

Garcia emphasized that the center not only assists the clients it serves but also the families by giving them some relief from daily care giving responsibilities.

This is the second year that the annual fundraiser will be at Ventura's Tamales, 3907 N. Navarro St.

"The food is so good," Garcia said. "Their carne guisada is just like homemade."

In addition to the carne guisada, an $8 plate comes with rice and beans. Customers can dine in or take plates to go.

There will also be a silent auction and bake sale.

Auction items and baked good may be donated at Affectionate Arms, 3802 John Stockbauer Drive, through 5:30 p.m. Friday or bring the items to Ventura's on Sunday.
