A 55-year-old Victoria man died in a wooded area near the Alcoa plant about a mile and a half south of state Highway 35 on Thursday afternoon.

The man, identified as Frank Tamez, was working for a surveying company. His co-workers noticed he was missing about 1:30 p.m. and started searching for him on foot, Calhoun County Sheriff George Aleman said.

They then called Alcoa, which brought four-wheelers to assist with the search.

When Tamez was found about 4 p.m. west of the railway near Farm-to-Market Road 1593, medics performed CPR on him. He did not survive, Aleman said.

"We did check the body as much as we could for any type of snake bites and any wounds of any type, and none were found," he said.

Aleman said he was told that Tamez may have had a history of heart problems.

Tamez's body will be taken to the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.
