St. Nicholas ministry currently receiving donations
Nov. 15, 2013 at 5:15 a.m.
For the past 25 years, the ecumenical St. Nicholas Ministry has been helping needy children, their families and elderly persons during the Christmas season in Lavaca County.
The St. Nicholas Ministry is receiving gifts of nonperishable food items, new toys for children from infancy to 13 years old, blankets and financial donations for this year's distribution of gifts.
Area churches, Wal-Mart, Brookshire Brothers and elsewhere have large boxes decorated and marked "St. Nicholas Ministry" to receive gifts through Christmas.
Financial gifts from individuals and organizations to help with the purchase of needed food and toys may be sent to St. Nicholas Ministry, P.O. Box 913, Hallettsville, Texas 77964. Area churches have information as to how people can assist in this ministry as well as special gift envelopes for financial donations.
Gifts will be distributed Dec. 14 at the Lillie Appelt Johnson Youth Center near the Hallettsville City Park from 8 a.m. to noon. Those receiving gifts must have on file a legitimate referral form that has been filled out by one of the county churches' clergy, schools or helping agencies (Lavaca County Senior Citizens, Probation Department, Texas Department of Human Services, Hospice of South Texas, and LAMB. Referrals are due by Tuesday). St. Nicholas volunteers will also be doing referrals at LAMB again Tuesday beginning at 10 a.m.
Persons wanting to assist in the St. Nicholas Ministry or desiring additional information may contact Pastor Herb Beyer, founder and coordinator, at 361-798-0155 or email firstname.lastname@example.org or Kari Pohl at 361-798-4596 or 361-798-0649.
