Traffic Tip: Center turn lane should not be used for merging

Motorists may not use the center turn lane as their merging lane.
Why the emphasis on this particular traffic law?
Too many times daily, I see people using the left turn lane only as their "entrance" to a busy street.
The main place I see this is on Navarro Street.
People exiting a side street or private drive are too impatient to wait for an opening in traffic, so they pull into the center turn lane and wait for their opportunity.
This is not only illegal but also dangerous.
There have been many traffic crashes caused by people using the center turn lane to wait for an open lane or, even worse, as their acceleration lane.
Ways to avoid this are to leave a few minutes early or take another route.
