Church to serve holiday meal

The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Goliad will host a free Thanksgiving dinner Thanksgiving Day.
Olga Zamora, 62, of Goliad, has been cooking the meal for four years.
Zamora said it's a town effort to ensure everyone gets a Thanksgiving meal.
"The whole town kicks in," Zamora said. "I accept donations from different organizations here in town to buy the groceries. The Knights of Columbus help me put the meal in the oven. And the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts help carry plates for elderly folks."
Last year the church, 238 N. Commercial St., fed 177 people, Zamora said. This year, volunteers plan to make signs on the road for 18-wheelers to stop and have a free meal, Zamora said.
The meal can be eaten at the church or made to go.
"We get a lot of workers who didn't get the day off and will send someone to come get six or seven plates to take to their rigs," Zamora said.
The meal will be available in the parish hall from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday.
