The Victoria County Genealogical Society met Nov. 11 for the last business meeting of the year. The meeting was called to order by the President Kenneth Booth. The minutes were approved as presented by Recording Secretary Joyce Henneke.
There was a discussion to review the bylaws, make changes and update if and where they were needed. Charlene Newton, chairwoman of hospitality gave a report on the plans for the Christmas party, which will be in the place of the regular meeting. The fall quarterly publication will be in the mail soon.
The terms of five board members will expire at the end of the year. Four of the members said they would stay on for another term if needed. The first vice president and program chairperson position was vacated, and Doris Obsta was nominated and elected to that position. The officers will be installed at the December meeting.
The program for the evening was German research presented by Patsy Hand, a longtime genealogist. She gave handouts to everyone, which had many website addresses for research and also people that could interpret anything written in the German language. More than 40 people were in attendance.
The next meeting will be Dec. 9, at the First Christian Church Fellowship Hall, 2015 N. Ben Jordan St. The 2014 dues are due now. For more information, contact Booth at 361-575-7584 or Louise Browning at 361-782-2171.
