A multiple-car accident occurred at the intersection of Ben Wilson and the Houston Highway. Firefighters used hydraulic tools to remove the passenger-side door of a pickup that had severe damage. Two victims were transported to area hospitals.

Two Victoria women were injured in a three-vehicle wreck on Houston Highway at Ben Wilson Street about 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Laura Soto, 30, of Victoria, who is five months pregnant, and Margaret Brown, 74, were treated and released from Citizens Medical Center, said Shannon Spree, hospital marketing director.

A witness said the driver of a white Ford truck hauling a trailer traveling west on the Houston Highway ran a red light, said Victoria Police Department Patrol Officer Sterling Kocian.

The white truck, driven by Dalton Oates, 21, of Victoria, hit a black Chevrolet truck, driven by 36-year-old Steven Soto, of Victoria, as it traveled north in the outside lane of Ben Wilson Street.

The white truck then slammed into the back door of the black truck. Laura Soto was a passenger in the black truck.

The black truck then veered into the inside lane and struck a tan Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Brown. The Cavalier hit a telephone pole.

"It is a complicated investigation," Kocian said. "There is a lot of secondary damage."

Two lanes of the Houston Highway and all four lanes of Ben Wilson Street were closed for more than an hour while crews cleared the wreck.

The investigation is ongoing.
