A Port Lavaca man died late Saturday morning when his wrecker truck flipped on Farm-to-Market Road 1090.

Cody Cowan, 21, of Coby's Wrecker Service approached a curve in his 2009 Ford F-750 about a mile northeast of U.S. Highway 87 and ran off the road on the right, said Trooper Gerald Bryant of the Department of Public Safety.

In an attempt to stay on the road, Cowan overcorrected his truck to the left and skidded across the road sideways, Bryant said.

The truck went off the road, and when its tires dug into the ground, the truck flipped and came to rest on its roof, Bryant said.

Cowan was pinned in his vehicle and pronounced dead on the scene by Victoria County Justice of the Peace Stuart Posey. He was not towing any vehicle.

Through a wrecker service worker, family members said Saturday night that they did not want to comment.

Bryant said unsafe speed would be listed as a factor in the accident.
