BEEVILLE - Victoria West quarterback Anthony Navarro accounted for four first-half touchdowns as the Warriors rolled to a 35-0 win over the Beeville Trojans in a District 30-4A matchup.
Navarro scored on runs of 36, 9 and 7 yards and also passed for a 38-yard score to Malcolm Peters before halftime.
He ran for 96 of his 153 yards in the first half, as well.
Running back Zevaughn Shelton led the 432-yard Warrior rushing attack with 187 yards on 19 carries. He also scored the Warriors final touchdown on a 2-yard run in the fourth quarter.
"I thought we executed pretty well most of the night," said Victoria West coach Leonard McAngus. "Our defense played great the whole night. It was a good start to district."
After building the 28-0 halftime lead, West continued to grind out the yardage and run the clock, racking up 12 second-half first downs to Beeville's three.
The only turnover of the game was a West interception by Caleb Marek on the last play of the game.
The West defense held the Trojans to 31 yards rushing on 25 carries.
Beeville head coach Jimmie Mitchell saw reasons for optimism despite the loss.
"Obviously, I'm disappointed, especially in not being able to score," he said. "I thought we played better defensively on the second half. Our kids didn't quit. They kept fighting, and there is something to be said for that."
