Two Victoria men await arrest for firing a gun inside Two Step nightclub early Sunday morning.
Victoria Police Sgt. Adam Nieto said he arrived at the dance club, located at 4106 Houston Highway, approximately 1:30 a.m. for what officers call a "bar check."
The check sends officers out to bars and clubs with large crowds on the weekends to help prevent any altercations that may arise among intoxicated patrons.
"When I got there, I saw a lot of people running out of the back entrances. I thought a fight was going on, and then I learned there were shots fired inside the location," Nieto said. There was an altercation inside the club that led to a handgun being fired, he said.
Nieto reported the incident to police and signaled for additional assistance. Eight officers arrived on scene.
No one was shot or injured in the shooting.
The shooters had already departed Two Step when Nieto entered the building, so officers were unable to make arrests at the scene, he said.
The shooters have been identified, and he expects arrests will be made in the next few days, he said.
Two Step closes at 2 a.m., but Nieto said everyone went home after the shooting.
"It was pretty hectic around there for a while," he said.
It is unlawful to carry a handgun inside Two Step, the sergeant said, noting he wasn't clear about how the handgun passed through the bouncers.
