A 38-year-old Gonzales man was hospitalized with second degree burns Tuesday morning after an explosion in a salt water and oil tank at a Karnes County oilfield site.
Sheriff Dwayne Villanueva said the man, whose name was not released, was only expected to be hospitalized overnight.
"I spoke to him by telephone just awhile ago, and he's going to be OK," he said. The explosion took place about 4:45 a.m. in the oilfield off Texas Highway 80 near Gillett.
Traffic was detoured from the explosion site until about 9 a.m., the sheriff said.
The site is owned by Gulf Coast Acquisitions.
Villanueva said the TCEQ and the Texas Railroad Commission were on site and OSHA is also expected to investigate the cause.
