U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Houston, will be the keynote speaker at the annual Patriot Dinner hosted by the Republican Women of Yoakum.

The sold-out dinner will be at the Yoakum Community Center, 105 Huck St.

"We're excited to have him and think the attendance verifies that," said Brenda Cash, president of the organization. "We're one of the fortunate events where he has chosen to appear."

After Saturday's dinner, there is also an opportunity to hear Rafael Cruz, Ted Cruz's father, speak at the November monthly meeting of the organization.

"Ted's father has an amazing story," said Cash. "We invite anyone interested to come hear him speak."

Rafael Cruz, now a Dallas pastor who fought in the Cuban revolution, will speak Nov. 6 at the community center.

The elder Cruz fled to Texas in 1957, put himself through school enrolled at the University of Texas at Austin and began a small business in the oil and gas industry.

The November meeting will also feature students presenting their Constitutional essays entered into the organization's annual contest.

The meeting begins at 11:30 a.m. A light lunch is served. Donations are accepted. If a group plans to attend, please call in advance.
