The Calhoun County Fair will kick off Tuesday with family night in Port Lavaca.

The carnival will open at 6 p.m., with $20 armbands Tuesday. The armbands will cost $25 Wednesday through Saturday.

Tuesday evening, contestants will line up for their chance to become royalty in the Fair Queen Contest.

Many nonprofit organizations will sell food to raise money this year, said Dale Biddy, the fair's publicity director.

"We'll have a lot of local seafood with different twists," Biddy said.

The menu will include an eclectic mix of fried Oreos, shrimp etouffee, turkey legs, shrimp burgers and funnel cakes.

Two-time Grammy award winning Tejano artist Sunny Sauceda will perform Saturday. Country band Joel Nava and the Night Moves will perform Friday.

Illusionist Sean Watson will bring his Las Vegas magic to the Texas Gulf Coast, and JayDee, Canadian hypnotist and comedian, will mesmerize audiences.

Fair-goers will compete in a hay-hauling competition, as well as jalapeno- and pie-eating contests.

The livestock show and auction, antique car and tractor shows, a dog show, and a clown will round out the offerings.

This year, the fair will be dedicated to Bart Canion and Johnnie Blinka, two long-time volunteers who recently died.

"The fair would not be possible without the volunteers," Biddy said.
