A Three Rivers man remains in fair condition at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin after a Monday morning traffic crash in DeWitt County.

Alfredo Lucas Diaz Jr., 35, was injured when his 2008 Dodge pickup crossed into U.S. Highway 183 from state Highway 111 and was struck by a tractor-trailer, said Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman Trooper Gerald Bryant.

The 2004 Peterbilt semi-trailer was traveling north and pulling a trailer. It jackknifed into the southbound lanes after the collision.

Juan Alfredo Guerrero, 35, of Mission, the driver of the tractor-trailer, was treated and released at Yoakum Community Hospital.

"A contributing factor appears to be that the pickup driver disregarded a stop sign," Bryant said.

Trooper Craig Wycoff is investigating the crash that took place about 12:45 a.m. Monday.

Diaz was not wearing a seat belt, Bryant said.
