The hip-hop scene in Victoria is about to get turned up, and the Houston-based independent record label Swishahouse is bringing in all its talent for the revolution.

Event host DJones said he and his crew are tapping in on something that's never been done in Victoria before.

"Hip-hop has evolved," he said. "People aren't listening to what's been played on the radio anymore - we're bringing them what they're listening to."

The event, which will replace another hip-hop night at club Two Step in Victoria, kicks off this weekend with industry veteran DJ Michael 5000 Watts spinning on the turntables.

"Ten years ago, it wasn't cool to dance," DJones said. "These kids - the swag generation - are turned up. They party. They jump around. They dance. It's turned up."
