Shiner Chamber hosting Half Moon BBQ cook-off

The second annual Shiner Half Moon BBQ Cook Off will be Oct. 18 and Oct. 19 at Green-Dickson Park, 65 Lavaca County Road 350.

The Shiner Chamber of Commerce is hosting the event.

Friday's cooking categories include the Shiner Open, anything made with Shiner beer as a primary ingredient. Shrimp will also be contested Friday. Entry fee for either is $20.

Saturday's cook-off categories and entry fees include: beans, $20; youth chili, $10; chili, $20; margaritas, $10; three meats (chicken, pork ribs, beef brisket), $125; and rice, $125.

The grand champion will win $600, the reserve champion will win $300, and cash prizes will also be awarded for first through third places.

A People's Choice prize will also be awarded. People's Choice allows the public, for a $10 fee, to sample the entrants and vote on its favorite.

And it's not all about the cooking.

On Saturday, there will be a washer tournament at 4 p.m. and a brat-eating contest at 5 p.m.

It's Shiner, so there is also music.

From 6-10 p.m. Friday, Kendra Krupala and Damon Billimek will perform.

Saturday's lineup includes Jade Patek from 4-6 p.m., and after the awards ceremony, Los Kolaches will take the stage from 8 p.m. to midnight.
