An altercation at the Jackson County Youth Fair Rodeo on Friday ended with authorities arresting a clown.

In full costume, Reginald Scott Messina, 49, of Huntsville, was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct about 8:30 p.m.

He arrived late for his job, so his boss decided to pull a prank, Jackson County Sheriff A.J. Louderback said Saturday. The boss told Messina it would cost him $40 to work at the rodeo.

Messina came unglued and punched his boss, Louderback said. News that it was a joke did not calm Messina, whose blood-alcohol level was .078, according to a field sobriety test, Louderback said.
