A Corpus Christi man was killed Thursday morning in a two-vehicle collision on Farm-to-Market Road 2442 in Goliad County.

Raul Silva III, 29, was traveling south in a 2001 Ford Explorer pickup. He crossed the center stripe.

He and a truck driven by Brett Bennett, 38, of Goliad, collided. Bennett was traveling north in a 2011 Ford F-150 pickup owned by Pioneer Natural Resources.

The crash happened on the crest of a hill at 6:30 a.m., said Gerald Bryant, a Department of Public Safety Trooper. The road is near the Karnes County line.

Silva was not wearing a seat belt, Bryant said. He was pronounced dead by Goliad County Justice of the Peace 1 Susan Moore.

Bennett was taken by Goliad EMS to Citizens Medical Center in Victoria, Bryant said.

He was treated and released, hospital spokeswoman Shannon Spree said about 3:40 p.m.

The roadway was shut down for two hours as Trooper Reuben San Miguel and Goliad County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Ryan Christian investigated.
