Officials called off the search for a missing Bay City fisherman Tuesday after human remains were discovered in San Antonio Bay.

Corpus Christi Coast Guard and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department began searching for Joe Ames, 62, Friday after his wife reported him missing.

Friends and family members, who helped with the search, found the remains near the wildlife refuge where Ames' boat was recovered Friday evening, said Game Warden supervisor Rex Mayes.

Mayes said he is not certain whether the remains were that of the missing man, but they were sent to a lab for DNA testing.

"We had a tremendous amount of resources and a lot of help from volunteers," Mayes said. "Quite a few folks that did quite a bit to find closure for this family. We had a major outpour come out to help."
