CORPUS CHRISTI - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi has promoted Brett Gips to assistant coach/recruiting coordinator for the Islanders baseball team.

Gips, a Yorktown graduate, served as a volunteer coach last season.

Gips played at Cisco College and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi before coaching for two seasons for the Cooperstown, N.Y., Hawkeyes of the Perfect Game Collegiate League.

"Brett has been a part of the program for the last two years as a coach and in the program for two years as a player, so he knows the system and knows what it takes to win," Texas A&M-Corpus Christi coach Scott Malone said in a news release. "He has successfully made the transformation from player to coach to where he is now. He is ready to excel as a recruiting coordinator at the Division I level. I am more than excited to be able to promote one of our own to this role."
