Victoria Police Department officers are searching for a suspect wanted in connection with a burglary at a North Main Street business.

At 12:36 a.m. Wednesday, the alarm at the Victoria Oliver Co. went off when a rock smashed through its front door, said company president Calvin Scherer.

Two suspects entered the building and stole four chain saws, Scherer said.

A witness reported the break-in to officers and gave a description of a gray Jeep Cherokee seen leaving the company parking lot.

Jose Ramirez, 21, of Houston, was arrested early Wednesday morning on suspicion of burglary of a building, evading arrest or detention and possession of marijuana in a drug-free zone, after he and the suspect wanted in questioning attempted to evade a traffic stop, said Sgt. Eline Moya with the Victoria Police Department.

Ramirez was apprehended after a short foot chase with officers. Upon arrest, officers recovered items from the vehicle that linked the subjects to the burglary, Moya said.

Description of the second subject was not released because of the ongoing investigation.
