The driver of a tractor-trailer died at the scene of an accident Thursday afternoon after being ejected from the vehicle.

The tractor-trailer was southbound on U.S. Highway 77 when it struck a John Deere tractor, jack-knifed and landed on its side, said Sgt. Billy Mora with the Department of Public Safety.

The names of the drivers were not available late Thursday.

The woman operating the tractor was transported to Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital in Corpus Christi by helicopter, Mora said.

The accident took place about 1:30 p.m., 5 miles north of Refugio, and part of the highway was closed for four hours, Mora said.

The accident is under investigation.
