Sept. 6, 2013 at 4:06 a.m.
Cuero VFW Post 3972 will hold a membership drive dinner Sunday at the post hall on U.S. Highway 183 north.
Post members and members of the Ladies Auxiliary will gather starting at 3 p.m. for live entertainment with a chicken fried steak to be served about 6 p.m.
Four VFW life memberships will be awarded to new qualifying members who apply during the drive.
Veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan - as well as other veterans - are encouraged to consider the VFW.
New members of the auxiliary - spouses, daughters, granddaughters of veterans - are also welcome to join at this time.
The Cuero VFW Post 3972 and the auxiliary were charted in 1966. The first post commander was the late Herbert Frels.
The post is active at community events and awards annual scholarships to graduating seniors, presents cash prizes to Voice of Democracy and Patriot Pen essay winners and takes part in many fundraisers for local fire departments and other service organizations.
