The United States is considering taking action against Syria because of that nation's reported use of chemical weapons on civilians.

President Barack Obama has said failure to act would threaten U.S. national security by encouraging others to defy the international consensus prohibiting the use of chemical weapons.

But others have said the U.S. should stay out of the war completely to avoid incurring more debt and indirectly supporting rebel groups of the country by ousting Syrian leader Bashar Assad.

The president said he will let Congress make the decision.

Should the United States get involved?

Pro: US should take military action to defend Syrians

Con: US cannot afford to get involved with conflict
