Events to honor victims of 9/11 attacks

The Victoria Fire Department invites the public to attend a ceremony to remember the victims of the terrorists attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
The ceremony will begin at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday at DeLeon Plaza in downtown Victoria.
Assistant Fire Chief Tracy Fox will deliver a welcome address.
Mayor Paul Polasek, Victoria County Judge Don Pozzi, Victoria County Sheriff T. Michael O'Connor, Police Chief J.J. Craig and Fire Chief Taner Drake will offer brief remarks.
Assistant Police Chief Roy Boyd will have closing remarks.
The Victoria Police Department and Victoria Fire Department Honor Guards will present colors and a Last Alarm will be dispatched in honor of the victims of 911.
The remembrance ceremony is being coordinated by the Victoria Fire Department, Victoria Police Department and the Victoria County Sheriff's Department.

Victoria College will hold a remembrance ceremony from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the 9/11 tree, on the north side of the Student Center/Faculty Dining Room, 2200 E. Red River St. The tree was planted in 2002 in memory of the victims of the attack.
H-E-B employees from 30 stores in the Gulf Coast region will honor local firefighters through Helping Heroes Program on Wednesday.
In Victoria, employees will be at fire station No. 1, 606 E. Goodwin Ave. to serve breakfast and lunch to firefighters.
Volunteers will also perform service and maintenance projects along with firefighters, such as yard work, station cleaning, equipment cleaning and preparation work., according to a news release from H-E-B.
