Yorktown man injured in crash on U.S. 77 north of Cuero

A Yorktown man remains hospitalized following a traffic crash Tuesday on U.S. Highway 183 near the intersection of alternate U.S. Highway 77 north of Cuero.

Warren Borgfeld, 63, was transferred from DeTar Hospital Navarro to San Antonio Military Medical Center.

Borgfeld was injured when his 2003 Ford Crown Victoria crashed with a 2011 Dodge pickup driven by Shawn Robert Jackson, 29, of Keller, said Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Gerald Bryant.

Jackson was traveling south on the highway when his truck crossed the centerline as he failed to control its speed on the rain-slickened roadway, according to the DPS report.

The pickup struck Borgfeld's car, spun around and hit a 2012 Dodge pickup driven by Freddie Fernandez, 27, of Edinburg.

Jackson and Fernandez were not injured. Two passengers in the Dodge and one in the passenger car were also uninjured, said Bryant.

Jackson received a citation for driving on the wrong side of the road., Bryant said.

All involved were wearing seatbelts, according to the report.

The crash took place at 3:22 p.m. Southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 183 were closed for about an hour, Bryant said.

The DeWitt County Sheriff's Office assisted with traffic control.

DPS Trooper Elizabeth Tolbert investigated the crash.
