Keeping spirits high during homecoming weekend was of the utmost importance to the Cuero Gobblers this past week.

Students across the district participated in themed costume days in anticipation of Friday's homecoming game.

Cuero Intermediate School fifth-grader Brooke Wendel, 10, dressed up in big, exaggerated black-framed glasses for Nerd Day to show of her support for the football team.

The intermediate school had a different theme than the high school Wednesday.

Since last year, Brooke said, she's worn a full-body green suit at the football games.

"I like to show my school spirit," Brooke said. "You got to root your team on."

Cuero High School cheerleading sponsor Tifani Hilburn said the spirit week is a good way to get everyone involved.

"It's nice to see us all come together," Hilburn said. "This way, the boys will know we have their backs 150 percent."
