Precinct barn to move from Victoria airport

Victoria County is one step closer to moving the Precinct 4 construction yard to Beck Road, about a quarter-mile from its leased space at Victoria Regional Airport.
The new 6-acre site will cost $82,250, while the current site costs the county about $45,000 annually in in-kind projects at the airport.
Commissioner Clint Ives expects to see fuel savings from the more central location. The property will house road equipment and will be a central location for nine county road and bridge employees.
"We will save the county and airport a great deal of money by getting the precinct off what has developed into a very prime piece of property at the airport," Ives said.
A realtor assessed the Beck Road property at $20,000 an acre, Ives said. They were able to negotiate it down with the seller, Jay Michael Fimbel Jr., to about $13,500 an acre, bringing the total purchase price to $82,250.
The county currently leases the property from Victoria Regional Airport.
"There's a lot of interest in warehouse property," Airport Manager Jason Milewski said. "I think it would lease pretty quick."
County Judge Don Pozzi said he considers the location to be a prime spot at the airport.
If development at the airport continues, relocating the courtesy station could be an option in the future, Ives said.
As for the new property, Ives estimates it will take 36 months to move. Eventually, commissioners will accept bids to build a metal shop building.
