UHV edges TSU; tourney chances better

HOUSTON - Ryan Suescun had three hits, and Joshua Boothe added a solo home run to lead UHV to a 5-4 win over Texas Southern on Sunday at the Texas Southern Invitational.

The Jaguars (17-22) finished the tournament at 2-1 and have won seven of their last nine games to increase their chances of making the NAIA Association of Independent Institutions tournament.

The tournament field is expected to be announced Monday.

Suescun went 3 for 4 with a triple and a double. Boothe also had a double, and Brandon Bohanon had a two-run single in UHV's three-run fifth inning.

Cory Hulsey earned the win in relief of Andrew Walker, and Andre Del Bosque picked up his eighth save.

The Jaguars travel to Seguin on Tuesday to play Texas Lutheran at 2 p.m.
