Catholic Daughters hold annual Education Awards Ceremony

Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court St. Ann No. 369, had its annual Education Awards Ceremony and reception honoring winners of their annual Education Contest on April 7.

Libby Ramirez, vice-regent, welcomed the honorees, their families and members and then led the opening prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. Donna Moeller and Geraldine Jurica, education committee co-chairwomen, and Vice Regent Ramirez presented awards and certificates to the winners.

Schools participating were Our Lady of Victory Catholic School and St. Joseph High School.

First-place winners by category and whose entries have been sent to Catholic Daughters of the Americas state competition include:

Poetry: fourth through fifth grades - Neha Chanda, sixth through eighth grades - Ariel Roberts and high school - Olivia Creager

Essay: fourth through fifth grades - Andres Ramos; sixth through eighth grades - Logan Rivera; and high school - Alexandra Marlow

Computer Art: fourth through fifth grades - Reed Rivera; sixth through eighth grades - Logan Rivera

Photography: sixth through eighth grades - Katherine Terry; high school - Katie Timmins

Art: fourth through fifth grades - Emily Chandler; sixth through eighth grades - Mariana Valdivia; high school - Alyssa Rodriguez

Second- and third-place winners by category include:

Poetry: Matthew Janak, Anjali Gaalla, Conner Schilhab, Alexis Garza and Alex Ferrel

Essay: Kloe Cowan, Megan Morgan, Presley Henry, Mattalyne Pall and Gina Tames

Computer art: Grant Carson, Connor Alexander and Hunter Haug

Art: Quinn Jones, Makenna Preslar, Randi Culpepper and Teresa Nguyen
