Editor, the Advocate:
When we get sick, we often need to take medicine to get better. In the same vein, when a community is sick, it also has to take its medicine to get better.
If Goliad wants to get better and restore its good name, then we need to take our medicine. We all know that taking our medicine can be unpleasant sometimes, but we have to do it if we want to heal and gain strength. We may not like it; we may have to hold our noses when we do it, but we have to take our medicine.
Part of this means seeking the truth wherever it leads to straighten out the financial mess we're in. However, we can't just stop there. That would be like when many of us start feeling a bit better and stop taking our medicine before we should.
We also have to put people on City Council who will create fair rules and policies to ensure that things like the scandals that have weakened our community never happen again.
I am sending this from my hospital bed.
