Hot, dry air whipped through Ashley Green's brown locks as hairstylist Cassie Olsen put the final touches on her first look.

Robert Pfeil watched as Olsen transformed his granddaughter's hair into three variations at Hair Dimensions.

"I wouldn't have missed this," Pfeil said. "Not for the world."

Green, a Victoria West High School senior, was voted this year's Victoria Advocate Prom Princess.

As part of the all-expenses paid prom package sponsored by area businesses, Green, 20, visited Hair Dimensions to sample three different styles for Victoria Advocate readers to vote on.

Last week, readers voted on their favorite dress.

"All she wants to do is look pretty," said Varchia Green, Ashley's mother, as tears welled up in her ducts.

Green was all smiles as she lifted a wine glass full of water as Olsen twisted her mane into an elegant bun for her second look.

"She looks so relaxed," her mother said.

Although Green has Down syndrome, she's able to do a lot on her own, her mother said.

"She's completely self-sufficient," the mother said. "She loves school and all the kids there - she's so special."

Green's mother, nursing director of the American Regional Health Center, was 18 years old when Ashley was born.

Her father, Tim Green, works as an escort driver for oversized loads.

"Love is a Battlefield," by Pat Benatar played lightly in the background of the salon.

"She loves her prom date, J.R.," her mother said. "He's very nice to her."

Olsen said she used Chi Keratin Shampoo, Biosilk Maracuja Oil, Chi Volume Booster, Chi Enviro 54 Hair Spray and Chi Shine Infusion Spray for Green's styling.

Steam emitted from Olsen's Chi hair straightener as she flattened out Green's hair into a shimmering third look.

"Oh my gosh," said Green after looking at herself in the mirror. "Mom, look, this is my favorite."
