A Victoria man remains in an intensive care unit at a Houston hospital after being attacked last week.
Lupe Sandoval, 52, was leaving Stripes convenience store, 1302 E. Rio Grande St., at 4:20 a.m. April 17 when he was struck in the back of the head and severely beaten while unconscious, his family said.
Marlin "Pepper" Adams, 59, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault, causing serious bodily injury and obstruction or retaliation for threatening the arresting officer, according to a criminal complaint.
Adams remains in custody at the Victoria County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond. A court date has not yet been set.
Sandoval underwent surgery Tuesday for his head trauma, his family said, and remains in critical but stable condition in the neurotrauma center at Memorial Hermann hospital.
