Generation Texas (GenTX) is a statewide movement that is focused on building a college-going, career-readiness culture across our great state of Texas. GenTX provides inspiration to students to pursue higher learning opportunities, supplying valuable information regarding college readiness and the process of applying for college admission and financial aid.
In 2011, GenTX held its first statewide GenTX Day, which was a celebration of the achievements of Texas students, especially our graduating seniors who were taking a critical first step in continuing their education beyond high school. For the past three years, people in schools, institutions of higher learning, businesses, government officials and communities have publicly expressed their support by wearing their favorite college T-shirts on GenTX Day. By participating in this endeavor, each person invites a conversation that offers up his or her own personal story of higher education, choices and careers. This is a conversation that could change a student's life and inspire him or her to dream big.
On Friday, Generation Texas will celebrate its fourth GenTX Day. This year's GenTX Day is a statewide call to action to motivate students with a real-world college experience that inspires them to visualize a career goal and to take the proper steps to achieve it. The theme for this year, "PicTour Contest!" involves taking a college tour on GenTX Day, photo contests and a college signing prize giveaway. GenTX Day is designed to motivate school and community groups to celebrate the importance of moving our students one step closer to a college or career-readiness experience.
We are extremely excited to announce that the Victoria ISD will be joining forces with Victoria College, the University of Houston-Victoria and various business and community groups to celebrate this wonderful day. We hope you will also consider joining us by wearing your favorite college T-shirt and showing your support as a champion for our children. To learn more about how to participate in GenTX Day or to request free GenTX Day promotional materials, please contact Darin Kazmir, Victoria College director of marketing and communications, at 361-582-2417 or by email at Darin.Kazmir@VictoriaCollege.edu.
For information on other Generation Texas events, you may visit its website at gentx.org. David Viscott once stated, "If you could get up the courage to begin, you have the courage to succeed." On behalf of our Board of Trustees and the entire VISD, thank you for having the courage to challenge our students to do more, to dream more, to learn more and, most importantly, to become more. We appreciate your excellence.
